Blue Spruce Habitat builds quality homes that are attractive, durable and energy efficient. Habitat homes exceed most building standards. Blue Spruce Habitat is committed to ensuring the long term affordability of our homes by constructing the most energy efficient buildings possible. For our upcoming 2012 duplex as well as a single family home in the Brook Forest area we are partnering with local social entrepreneurs, EverBuild Pro, to certify the homes under LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) designation. This program connects students and professionals in the community with affordable housing builders to expand the reach of sustainable building practices. We are also partnering with the EPA’s ENERGY STAR Program to further extend our green building programs. We want our homes to employ innovative design and technology tactics to benefit our partner families.  Together we can build homes that are green, healthy and affordable now and well into the future!

Our homes are typically 1,000 to 1,200 square feet with 2 to 4 bedrooms, depending on the size of the family. We typically do new construction, but have done renovations if the opportunity is affordable.  In 2008 we renovated a 1930’s cabin and worked with the Colorado Historical Society in planning the renovation.

In 2008 we also started our first planned development – Blue Spruce Vista. This development is in Kittredge and will ultimately have seven duplexes, or 14 units.  Three duplexes have been completed and we will be building there again this year (2012). We will also be building a single family home on Aspen Way in Evergreen. In addition, we will start a fourth home in Idaho Springs--our first annual Faith Build sponsored home, bringing together the local mountain faith community to build and fund home.

Blue Spruce Habitat is committed to building homes that are not only affordable for our homeowners to purchase, but also affordable to maintain.  Because use good energy efficiency practices, our homes save homeowners hundreds of dollars in utility costs each year. We also strive to be good stewards of our environment through recycling practices and the use of green materials as much as possible.
